Some of Obama's Alleged Sins.

A while ago a conservative commentator named D'Souza published an anti-Obama book alleging assorted political sins Obama allegedly committed. Fact checking indicates that D'Souza was simply wrong. Here are some of the false charges with the findings of the fact checkers.

Beth Fouhy Associated Press 8/28/12

Fact Checks (partial) re movie 2016

D'Souza goes through a list of actions Obama has taken as president to support his anti-Obama thesis. Many of them don't hold water:

- D'Souza rightly argues that the national debt has risen to $16 trillion under Obama. But he never mentions the explosion of debt that occurred under Obama's predecessor, Republican George W. Bush, nor the 2008 global financial crisis that provoked a shock to the U.S. economy. These two things accounbt for a great deal of that national debt.

- D'Souza says Obama is "weirdly sympathetic to Muslim jihadists" in Afghanistan and Pakistan. He does not mention that Obama ordered the raid that killed Osama bin Laden and the drone strikes that have killed and continue to kill dozens of terrorists in the region.

-D'Souza wrongly claims that Obama wants to return control of the Falkland Islands from Britain to Argentina. The U.S. refused in April to endorse a final declaration on Argentina's claim to the islands at the Summit of the Americas, provoking criticism from other Latin American nations.

-D'Souza says Obama has "done nothing" to impede Iran's nuclear ambitions, despite the severe trade and economic sanctions his administration has imposed on Iran to halt its suspected nuclear program. Obama opposes a near-term military strike on Iran, either by the U.S. or Israel, although he says the U.S. will never tolerate a nuclear-armed Iran.

- D'Souza says Obama removed a bust of British Prime Minister Winston Churchill from the Oval Office because Churchill represented British colonialism. White House curator William Allman said the bust, which had been on loan, was already scheduled to be returned before Obama took office. Another bust of Churchill is on display in the president's private residence, the White House says.

It would seem that Obama's conservative detractors will stoop at nothing, not even lies and misrepresentations. D'Souza is an intelligent fellow and had an excellent education at Dartmouth College. He should -- and I am sure does -- know better about his accusations.

Here is a link for Richards cut and paste if anyone has a desire to read it in context.

http://www.huffingtonpost.com/2012/08/28/2016-obama-america-fact-check_n_1835710.html

It concerns the movie "2016:Obama's America.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/2016:_Obama's_America

Here is an article which attempts to refute each contention from Richard's paste:

AP UNDOES ITS OWN 'FACT CHECK' ON D'SOUZA'S '2016: OBAMA'S AMERICA'

http://www.breitbart.com/Big-Journalism/2012/08/28/The-AP-Undoes-Its-Own-Fact-Check-on-D-Souza-s-Obama-2016

This all seems a bit dated, considering all the scandals now arising from the debris of Obama's failed Administration. Enjoy 8-)

A while ago a conservative commentator named D'Sou... (show quote)

I would agree with about half of what you have put up here, some of the so called "facts" are only partial representations such as the debt, Bush did run unprecedented deficits but that has little to do with president Obama, the economic downturn did impact and put pressure on the deficits under president Obama, that is true, but it is also true that president Obama's administration has welcomed the growth in government spending and sees benefit in the growth of the entitlement programs that have served to grow his deficits. He has done little to control or curb them, his deficits have for the most part been 2 to 3 times larger than those of his predecessor. As for the Churchill bust, that story is true, it was removed from the White House and returned to the British Embassy which the Embassy did confirm. The Obama administration pointed to a second bust and claimed that it was the bust involved in the dispute but that proved to be false. It does speak to the president's predisposition towards the once colonial power that his father so despised.

Haven't seen too much of you here Richard, I have missed your posts as you are often quite insightful and have the ability to calmly work your way through some pretty opinionated discussions. Don't always agree with you have have appreciated your posts.

Just a quick note: Obama's detractors will "stoop" to anything, but "stop" at nothing to discredit him.

Yes, because the MSNBC tells you so. Have you ever considered that much about what is said about president Obama just might be true? Tell me about Benghazi, tell me how the president portrayed his actions that night and what his actions really were. Telll me in light of General Hamm's recent statements how the president's words for weeks after the attack were words of integrity. Show me this president's leadership, show me how he has administered his office effectively. Show me that this president has not been extra constitutional in his issuance of executive orders and his selective application of our laws.... Teach me why I should not think that he has dishonored the oath he swore to our constitution. Teach me why it is that he should use the prestige of his office in attempts to discredit supreme court rulings. Teach me why I should respect the manner in which he uses the words I when talking about US policy decisions both domestic and abroad, as if his opinion is the only one in DC that matters and all policy coming from DC is his, and not the result of many people working hard and providing substantial input into the decisions which effect each and every American.... When he uses the word I as he does, it is almost as if our democracy hardly matters, he portrays himself as omnipotent.

Convince me that this is a great president.

Actually, I was just correcting the author of this post about his spelling. He wrote something like "Obama's detractors will stoop at nothing to discredit him." This being said, I've had some experiences that lead me to stand by my statement. For some reason, I was on the local Tea Party's e-mailing list for several years. One of these e-mails, alleged to be quoting from Obama's autobigraphy, read as follows: "Michelle and I attended many flagburnings back then." I had just finished the book and knew that no such thing ever appeared in the book. Another e-mail alleged to be quoting from an Obama speech about the killing of Bin Laden. It didn't sound right to me at all. I went online, found the text of the speech and discovered that "we" had be changed everywhere to "I." "Navy Seal team" had been changed to "I." The alterations were blantantly obvious. The headline said the speech proved that Obama was the world's biggest meglomaniac. In my e-mails (reply all) I corrected these cheap, dirty tricks. I am no longer on the e-mailing list. This is why I stand by my "stoop to anything, stop at nothing to discredit" position. You really need to check these things out. Thankfully, some of you do.

I do check things out, I am not referring to any books or other propaganda that folks have written for profit, I pay attention to this president when he speaks, I cannot recall in my lifetime a president using the word "I" as does this president. I don't need to read books, or do internet searches, I pay attention to the president himself to form my opinions about him.

But thanks for your input as misinformed as it may be.

D'Souza is from India and is a wannbe far-right conservative. He likes to be controversial in order to get attention to himself. Has a knack for making "facts" from fiction. Enough said.
