Ok guys, A little advice on getting a decent used full frame camera. I have been asked to take photos of real estate locally by our largest realtor, I will need an 11mm lens and a FF camera. I don't have the bucks to buy the Sony A99 (my preference) so I need to get something more affordable, around 1000.00. Used Nikon, Canon or any would be ok,but do want the best bang for the buck. I will be shooting indoors so the better the low light capability the better.

If you realy think you need a full frame camera. Rent one first and also use your own camera and compare photos. You will need that wide angle lens for those indoor shots.

The realtor specifically said that I would need an 11mm lens or fisheye. 11mm my crop frame cameras, that turns into 16.5mm, I don't think that will be wide enough.

I'm looking at this lens: http://www.ebay.com/itm/Tokina-ATX116PRDXN-11-16mm-Ultra-wide-Angle-Nikon-Lens-/130944684949?pt=Camera_Lenses&hash=item1e7ce95395

Look at KEH. I have a friend who got a Nikon D700 for $800.

I have a Nikon D700 and recommend it highly.
I would also look at KEH.

The Tokina lens you gave the link for is for DX cameras.
Doesn't cover full-frame.

I'll be honest...our very best friend is a managing broker of a real estate house that wont touch a property for under $500,000...and her photographer uses an Ipad...

I have looked at your posts...its the guy behind the camera, not the camera...

You'll do very well...with what you have on board...just MHO.

Is your realtor a photographer too? If you go down to 11mm, things will look unnaturally distorted. Is that what he/she wants? Personally, this annoys me, but I guess you give the client what he/she wants. You might want to inform your realtor that the cost will go up.

A less expensive option is to buy a nodal device for your tripod, use your existing gear, take a two frame pano, and stitch in post. It won't look distorted and you'll get the same or greater field of view.

Its interesting...our broker friend told me...because she knew I was an amateur photographer...

We dont need 30 pictures...we need a few that will make people call us...then my agents can go to work...and really show the house.

A full frame will be in your future....time and patience dammit!

" A neighbor wet to the farmer and asked to borrow his tractor. The farmer said no, looks like rain in Tulsa.
Neighbor said but we live in Georgia! Farmer said one excuse is as good as another"

If you WANT one, GET one!

KEH Rocks, I use them from time to time, great gear, reasonable prices, Always had great results.
Adorama and B&H Are also great.

Good luck with your new toy

I have never shot real estate per say. I really don't know what is required, I will have to do some research. I went to an Art Gala last night and 2 realtors talked to me about taking photos for them. 100.00 per house, that would really help me out, but got to make sure I do it right the first time. I looked at 1 of the realtors homes today, OMG, must be 3 mil home.

Thanks for that. I have 6 cameras, do I need another one? Not really, but ya, always wanted a FF digital, but no justification to buy one.

Your realty agent obviously doesn't know cameras. If he said 11mm and full frame then it sounds like a case of him just having enough understanding to give the wrong direction.
The fact that he specifically mentioned 11mm means that he possibly saw someone use an 11-16mm Tokina.
That is an APSC lens as you are probably aware.
Sounds to me like all you need is an ultra-wide.
All he wants is probably a photog who can make small rooms look bigger than they really are.
Maybe you should tell him to leave the photography up to you and you will leave the realty up to him.
There's more than one way to skin a cat.

No I wasn't aware of that, cant find info that says specifically for APSC. I have a 17-50 2.8 that will probably work for most cases.
