I am new to this forum and would like suggestions from those who wear glasses. I manage to smudge my glasses routinely when using my T2i.

I too wear glasses and have tried taking pictures with them off. But then I have to put them right back on so I can see!! If you don't want to wear contact lenses (as I can't imagine sticking anything in my eye!) then carry lens cleaner. That's what I do. Live with the smudging until I can clean it off. I'll be interested to hear what others do. By the way, nice shot!

When I first started wearing the glasses it was a constant issue. Bumping my glasses against the viewfinder, smearing the lens of my glasses and so on. Like anything else in life once I got used to them and with some patience the issues soon went away and it's no longer even something I think about.

It's even worse when you are left eye dominant. I pretty much leave the glasses off except when manually focusing. Or I might wear them around my neck on a chain, just like my old aunt used to, put them on just to change settings in dim light. Oh vey.

Depending on your visual deficit, you might try adjusting the viewfinder's diopters to use it without the glasses. Good shot!

Welcome to the forum. You do know how to set the Diopter adjustment on your viewfinder of the camera right? Some people haven't discovered this yet and it makes all the difference in the world. There is a small wheel adjustment around the viewfinder and if you adjust it to your sight without your glasses on you can see clearly through the finder. I raise my glasses up on my head when focusing and drop them back down to see the settings on the LCD. If your eyesight is really bad you can buy different Diopters to work with your sight. My ultimate goal is to get Lasik but that doesn't fix farsighted. At lease I will only need readers at that point. TIP when you get your eyes checked tell your doctor you are a photographer and they will adjust your prescription for better then normal eyesight. Some photographers have special glasses that you can raise one lens up and out of the way when taking a shot. Some photographers use live view and leave there glasses on all the time. I hope this gives you an answer that works for you. Fix you eyes is the best answer.

Yes, I "just do it" - look through the viewfinder with my left eye. With tri-focals between my eye and the viewfinder. And even though the little "tests" (index fingers and thumb make triangle, look through with both eyes, close one eye, then the other - the eye that gives the results neares both eyes is the dominant one) tell me that my right eye is the dominant one, I use the left eye to look through the viewfinder.
I have to deal with smudges all right: from my nose resting on the LCD while I'm using the viewfinder....
BTW, I have no idea which part of my tri-focals I use to look through the viewfinder.

Depending on where I am and what I'm shooting, glasses are a royal pain in both the gluteus Maximus and Minimus, I've got the special diopter so I can see through the viewfinder and focus just fine with glasses off, then it's put the glasses back on to see the image after the shot to evaluate camera settings, then adjust camera settings, then glasses off to look through the viewfinder for the next few shots, then glasses on again . . . . and so it goes. When I can, I shoot tethered, so I can leave my glasses on all the time then, and check every image as it is imported into the computer, but it's only a partial solution. If you don't shoot tethered yet, I suggest you give it a try, and I look forward to hearing additional suggestions from others on the forum.

Welcome to the forum, bye the way, I'm new to the forum, as well, and have greatly enjoyed my participation, so far. Most members are here to help, and only a very few are the usual forum trolls that it seems all forums have.

On some cameras there is a slide bar instead of a wheel on the viewfinder.

Beware if you start using the back button on an SLR for the focusing. You will go through a lot of lens cleaner and cloths!

Lens cleaner is your friend. At least the smudge is not on the finished image. None of the solutions are perfect, you just learn to live with it. Welcome aboard. Happy shooting.
