I live near several ski areas, but I got over liking winter several years ago. Oh well, I digress...have fun with your photography.

You are very close, but incorrect. Have you ever heard of Crawford? It's a town (barely) about 10 miles from Hotchkiss. Maybe you've heard of Crawford Reservoir?

I know exactly where Crawford is, I was born and raised across the Black Canyon from there.
I work for a retail grocery chain (I know you know which one), I used to travel to many of the stores as part of my job. I traveled through Crawford on the trip between Hotchkiss and Gunnison about 2 times a month. Beautiful trip, part of the reason I got into photography.

Here is one that didn't pass us by We wrere in a semi driving through Wyoming. That was out the front windsheild we couldn't hardly see the road.
