Hi to all,
I just got back from a fishing trip where I saw amazing wildlife and was without a camera. I need help from all of you with choosing a DSLR under $1500 What are your thoughts on Canons, Nikons and ??? I very much appreciate any guidance.
I read that Canon adds a layer on the senor that some people would use a filter, therefore it does not produce as sharp of focus as it should.
I shoot with a Canon 7D and I absolutely love it. Prior to that I bought a Canon 20D and used that to learn so many things about photography. When questioning whether to buy a Canon or a Nikon, a good friend asked me what I had been using. It happened to be a Canon Sure Shot. She suggested that most camera makers use the same icons on their buttons and, in general, the same philosophy about placement. Since I was so used to the buttons on the Sure Shot, I would probably feel comfortable more quickly with a Canon. And, you know, she was absolutely right. I picked up on it right away and could devote my time to more important things like exposure, etc. Just a suggestion. It worked well for me.
Good to know. I've used Canons in the past as well.

Welcome
NO ONE can tell you want to buy, you can only be advised on what others like
What car would you buy, off road, people carrier, sports, 2/5/8 seater, only you know.
I shoot sports and weddings, I use D700s and 60Ds Canon and Nikon, see my site, then you may have a question to ask me that I can answer
$1500 is not much at all a lens can easily cost that and more, MY opinion would be check out reputable pre owned outlets, I don't know any over there but I buy a great deal from London Camera Exchange here

ALL digital cameras have an anti-alias layer unless you specifically order one that does not such as the D800E

Look at the Sony Alphas. They are really wonderful cameras.
I just recently bought the A65 and I do Love it.
I also have a canon T4i that is going to be sold and or traded in. yup, I'm jumping ship to Sony.
Happy hunting

Sony are the fastest selling dslrs (on the used front) because people buy them and six months later want either a Nikon or Canon because they offer the greater flexibility in their systems
Ask yourself just one question, "how many pros do you see use Sony or Olympus"
Good cameras for general use

No real help is that, I could list 20 cameras with no reason for it and have you noted his finances, why the D7100
I dont like Manual Clean Mode :( it don't do nothing. Now I see spots :x
Welcome to the Hog MG. I think a good place to start would be a Nikon D5200 with their 18-105 lens at $1000. See BH Photo on the web, Costco, Best Buy and others. If you start with Nikon and your interests in photography outgrow this camera or lens Nikon has a lineup of cameras and lens that will grow with you. Nikon cameras and lens are interchangeable- nothing becomes useless or obsolete. ;)
Canon and Nikon are both great cameras. I'd suggest you go to a camera store and handle a few of these and see which one feels the best to you. Some are more cumbersome to handle than others.
