Can someone give me advice on using the Lasso tool? I have tried several times and can't seem to get the hang of it. The lines go all over the place.

I want to use it to whiten and brighten teeth in photos.

Thanks.

Sherrill...again....;-(

if you click and hold on the lasso tool icon, you will see that there are 3 modes to this tool.
1. lasso -just free hand drawing
2. magnetic lasso - it will try to find the edge of whatever you are trying to select
3. polygonal lasso - this one will draw a line from each "click" to the next "click"...so you can build a selection by clicking all around the edges.

I end up using other selection tools most of the time, myself. It pretty much depends on the contrast between what I want to select and the background. If they are similar, I just use a selection brush and vary the size as i get into the detailed areas.

Don't forget the "dodge" tool for something like teeth whitening. Set the exposure to a mid to low setting, and working with a zoomed in image, you can lightly remove an off color cast. So many different ways to get a good result with this ( and other) programs......Good luck.

My advice if you are planning on doing retouching of portraits?? Spend a hundred bucks or more and get a wacom pen/tablet. When it comes to retouching, a mouse is far too difficult (compared to).

lasso tool quite easy, however, using that tool requires you to do the move in one movement: try the magnetic tool click the wee triangle and you will see it in the same box as the lasso tool the magnetic lasso tool, you can then move and click move and click till you return to the starting point small {o} thereafter marching ants appear remember to feather selection before brightening the teeth good luck

get back to me if I can help
