My friend uses it on her camera for years. She seems very happy with it. She uses it on a Canon. Of course it depends on what you want to takes photos of. If you get it for a good price you'll probably be happy with it.

It is a good zoom range, but build quality is somewhat lacking when comparing it to the same length zooms from Nikon and Canon. I have had the opportunity to shoot it in the Nikon mount and do a direct comparison to the Nikon 28-300mm VR II lens and the Nikon is considerable sharper and focuses much faster.

I use it. It's the VC version: not bad for its price and does its job well. The Nikon is on another level but costs much more.
I use it on my D700.

Pleases me. Being a bit lazy & with it having the range versitility, it's my stuck on lense. I don't know if I could handle the of changing lenses & "what lense should I use for this shot" quandary.
I know the purist are going to be shaking their heads but as I said - pleases me.

They have made severel models of the 28 - 300. I have an older one and have it on my "in the car trunk" camera and I like it. Have had to go with manual focus in dim light because it would not focus or let me take pictures on auto. - Dave

Thanks all for the input. I am now using the Canon 100-400L and I need something lighter to use on hikes. I am older and have bad shoulders and the Canon lens weighs a ton. I also use the 18-135 kit lens. If I could get a lens like the Tamron that is as sharp as the Canon it would be great.
I shoot mostly birds but I have to use tripod as the Canon 100-400 is too heavy for me to hold steady.

I use it as my walkaround lens. Rarely do I find a situation that it can't handle.

I have noticed that mine has a yellowish tint to all the pictures, so I corrected that using Photoshop CC's (and previously CS6 and CS5) ability to correct for it whenever I open a picture (RAW) in Photoshop.

Thanks. I have Lightroom 4 and Elements 11 and I shoot raw so I can process the white balance OK.
I might try it and see how it performs.

I tried it two times and thought it was an okay lens but sharpness was a little lacking the second time I used it on a Canon body. Liked it more the first time when I used it on a Nikon body--for the price a good value

Would you consider a swap with a Canon 70-200 f4L with tripod collar?

It's not a white balance problem, though. It's a lens problem. Photoshop has a huge selection of lens that it has corrections for, and if one finds a specific problem, like the yellow tint from my lens, one can write one's own correction algorithms for it and share it with the Adobe community.

Hello Russelray, and all, Have you checked when you bought the lens. Tamron has a 6 year warranty on their lenses. You may want to call them about the yellow hue on your photos. You may want to print one of the photos and send it with the lens.

It's not just me. There are dozens, if not hundreds of people on Twitter, Facebook, other areas on the Internet with the same issue, although it's not always yellow. Red seems to be the second most prevalent tint for this lens.

Every lens by every manufacturer, though, has a problem of some sort. Canon and Nikon lenses seem to have fewer problems than the other manufacturers, but they still have problem. That's why Photoshop has all of the correction it its Lens Correction adjustments. There are even Camera Calibration adjusts, so it's not just the lenses.

Maybe there is a new version that is better than what I had.I used the lens for 10 years on my Canons but never was truly satisfied with the sharpness, it seems a little soft in the focus. I am doing photography to sell, but if for your own use it should be fine. I loved the versatility of the zoom and the price was right.
