Which website builder site to use?

Forced retirement has prompted me to build a website for my photography collection and to capitalize on my past sign trade position as a sign site surveyor. After many months of googling the Top 10 website builders, I am still at a loss as to which one is best. My main concern is the reviews from users in the money spent and poor service advertized, not being what was cranked up to be. At 71 years young and only computer friendly, all I need is unlimited access to do what I need to change what might not work, or what I really should be doing to further the site along. I might include I got sticker shock when I went to a young man who would build my site the way it should be for a mere $2000.
Hence my appearance here requesting your help or guidance if that can be accomplished in this forum. Thanks in advance.

Go Daddy has very good customer service at reasonable prices. They of course host but also have a lot of tools to help you and their tech support is very good....as always JMHO
First of all ... KISS ... Keep It Simple Stupid. Don't complicate it. Making your own website can be a very simple thing. You don't need to spend a lot of money, nor be a programmer. Years ago I went through the process of learning HTML and lots of other stuff. Now I very seldom use it, except in rare occasions.
I buy domain names at a very cheap price, about $14 a year, on 1and1.com. That's the only thing I buy from them, even though they have a lot of other services.
As for hosting my web sites, I use weebly.com, which is free. I use my own domain names and use a template of my choice. Just start slowly, and learn as you go. Don't be afraid to experiment. Nobody will even see your web site until you start advertising it on business cards, emails, and other websites.
You can start practicing on weebly.com by using their free domain name extension. Then, when you're ready, you can buy your own domain name and start using it.
Here is a website that I recently made:

Take a serious look at Zenfolio and then at their associates that customize the site for you. It is excellent to work with, though not cheap!
what type of website are you looking for?
just photohosting (no sales) try flickr.com (free)
Zenfolio for hosting and sales (a fee)
Fine Art America hostin and sales (free)
Blogger for a started site (free or small fee if you purchase a domain name), nice because it easy to set up, easy to update and SEO friendly.
After that are "true" websites which can get pretty pricey depending on what you are looking for.
Take a look, as others have said, at Zenfolio. I use them and have done so for a number of years and am very satisfied.

Jerry, thanks, I have a ACER notebook(starting out) and after visiting your siite, I should have listened to my niece and went Apple. I am impressed by your site very much, especially photo 24 of 24 in the Grand Canyon gallery. I may have to look at more sites to see if I can get close to your layout, simple, clean, easy to navigate, and awesome. Thanks again.

Annie, thanks, as you can see from the postings, I really don't know what I'm looking for at present, but all of you kind folks at Hedgehog have impressed me with your thoughtfullness, thanks to you all for your suggestions. I will look at them all.
I am in Ft Myers and actually run two web sites. One that is existing for my boating club, USPS.org and another for a District Hq within that organization. Previously I had my own site hosted by GoDaddy.
I use a cell phone 603-973-2556 (call me with cell) and you can call or and come over and I'll show you how to use FTP to a hosting site and how to use a template web site available for purchase at allwebco.com for photographs and a FREE Professional HTML program from Microsoft.
