This is a professional beggar. I've seen her many times in various London tourist hotspots. Two or three will be dropped of from a van, set themselves up in suitable spots and get to work.

That's the plan, and it works. Her cup soon floweth over with cash, then she empties it in the brand new bag beside her and resumes crying. At the end of her stint she is picked up by the same van and hands the money over to the boss.

Some cities in the US have studied the 'panhandlers' and found that many of them drive their new Caddilac or Lincoln into town, park it in a safe location, then change clothes, hop a bus or walk to get to their location....... They usually live 50-100 miles from where they "work", guess it beats actual 'manual labor' at an HONEST job!!

I was duped once by an older gentleman who looked in need with his tattered clothes and unkempt self. I bought him some food and wished him the best. A few weeks later as I was in the same parking lot I saw his "shift end" as he was picked up by someone in a pretty decent car, once he saw the car his entire demeanor changed, he stood upright and became cheery....I was a bit irked! It is sad because it makes one less apt to want to help when you see them for fear you are being had!

As usual, Graham, a nicely done photograph.

Have you seen the old girl
Who walks the streets of London
Dirt in her hair and her clothes in rags?
She's no time for talking,
She just keeps right on walking
Carrying her home in two carrier bags.

Nice shot and story behind it. Recently there was a prosecution of a Beggar in Peterborough. When it came out he was from Sheffield and would travel to Peterborough every day in his brand new Audi TT, back in Sheffield he lived in a house valued at £750000 (over $1million). He was a British national and was working for himself. It makes you wonder doesn't it why you bother sometimes.

Graham Smith, we also have the professional beggars in our area. Sad that they are allowed to prey on the sympathy of big hearted folks.

Sherlock Holmes did this over a hundred years ago to get the goods on somebody. Shows you things don't change that much.
