What is the rule when one has to show the author of a picture a improved version of the original shot.
Am I to ask permition to work on the print before even downloading it and working on it and reposting the print on the blog???

Any help?

Thanks

the "rules " have been recently updated whereas doing an edit to someone's posted photo should only be done when specifically requested. I find the only gray area to that rule is when it is implied via the subject of a post, or in the comment that an edit might be appreciated. When in doubt, I will refrain....but a P.M.. or a request within the thread would be a safe bet also.

Why not just have a "Permission" or "No Permission" statement when one starts the thread like the one I just did at this thread:

http://www.uglyhedgehog.com/tpr?p=160358&t=12909

Just do was the theme and give people like me auto permission and I can go about doing what I like doing best and that is talking about photography and showing how one can improve a photo with my skills.
I think there are too many rules with a forum like this but I also understand the reason for them.
I am very good with rule and ethics but just to ask every time and wait to do the project take too much time. With Cyber Space and time been important I feel that been in a forum one should not have to ask when the author ask to be critic. This is more so like implied that they are giving permission to talk or show how one can improve a print.

Thanks.

Show us your skills. Start your own discussion, using your own images. You can invite editing or not.

I'd like it if the rule was clarified. If one permission is asked for and granted. does that clear the way for others, or does each individual need to ask, and the author have to stop and answer each request separately? If the author has gone off line, too bad. I think a check mark makes more sense from the beginning. If the request is implied, some will understand it differently than the next, thus those most conscientious will never have a chance until the subject has already been worn out. Or at least request that people word their requests clearly with "I want help, show me what you would do"

There are a lot of new people on this website daily that probably have not read all the rules and do not know to state that you have their permission to edit when they post. Simply ask. No harm, no foul.

The alternative is to go out and take some of your own photos and edit until your hearts content. Post the before and after shots for us to see with your commentary of what you did in PP.

I have asked Admin to consider adding a check box announcing whether or not the poster would invite editing the picture. I also suggested a way of adding a copyright to establish ownership should piracy occur.

In reality, once you post anything to the Internet, it is in the public domain and onus of protecting your rights rests with the owner, not the interloper.

For whatever it is worth, check your camera and software to see if either copyrights your material.

I think UHH is a great site and one of the strongest features is help so many people volunteer. The help might be simple how-to advice, encouragement, or editing your photo. And almost all of the contributors respect the opinions, efforts and feelings of the others.

Don't ask that because if the answer were to be "Yes" you wouldn't feel so hot !

Why not just have a "Permission" or &quo... (show quote)

I think people were getting too "edit happy". Just because you may have better skills does not give you automatic license to edit someone else's photo. I think it is great to offer suggestions
but in most cases if I post a photo that I need help with, I am looking to improve my skills....not be a showcase for yours. I do appreciate your skills and would love to see your pre and post production work!

I have only posted a couple of images but in each one I have asked to be critiqued and asked that if you want to edit, please do. But I also ask if you edit to give me fairly detailed info. I can't learn from a reposted image that just shows me a different take if I don't know what you did. One post gave me a different view point that I really liked and told me how to do it on my own--in which case I learned a couple of new skills.

So as someone who is new, I give permission to edit but ask for details. I also hope that when someone views my images, they will tell me why or why not they like the image. That helps me see my image through someone else's eyes and makes me look at it in a new way. I view this forum as a learning place and appreciate those who are willing to teach.
