This is my first attempt at the "soft water" effect to give the illusion of motion. Until recently, I used a bridge camera which would not allow the use of filters on its lens. Now, I've upgraded to a dSLR and used a variable neutral density filter for this shot.
I'm pretty happy with it for my first attempt.

It's easy to get the soft water effect w/o a filter if you do a multi-image HDR.
You did a very good job. Nice photo.
I do HDR quite often, but it's not quite the same to me.
Here's one of my HDR shots from yesterday's outing - It's of a somewhat iconic motel in La Crosse, WI that's being demolished. Had to get a shot before it's gone forever.

UFCfanWI: The water fall is good for a first attempt. I think it is a little over exposed. When you are there next time, set up the same, then start shortening the exposure length, try 6 seconds, then 5.5 etc till you get it just right. You may have to shoot a lot of frames to get that one perfect picture.
