An interview with Bamboo

1) How long have you been into photography and what got you started?
I bought my first camera (a Petri slr) at a PX in Yokosuka Japan in 1963 to record what I saw while in the Navy.

2) Have you had any formal training and what kind of photography do you do most?
Initially I learned by trial and error and for most of my life I mainly shot photos of our children growing up. It was not until I got first digital camera that began to photograph just about everything that interested me. I attended a Rick Sammons seminar in about 2006 that opened my eyes to new possibilities. Most of what I have learned since is from watching Adorama and YouTube videos and of course UHH. I recently joined a camera club and now most of my photos are of landscapes and of my grandchildren.

3) What inspired you to take your winning shot?
I rented a Canon 70-200 2.8 from BL Lens to photograph at the 150 Anniversary of Gettysburg. That week I also attended a swim meet that my grandson and granddaughter were in.

4) What equipment did you use and was there any special setup?
I shot with a Canon 7D and the 70-200 2.8 non IS hand held. I believe I did have a CP filter on because I was shooting around water.

5) Would you change anything if you could do it again?
No there was no setup it was simply impulsive.

6) If you couldn't do photography what else would you do?
I have been bitten and photography has become an obsession how ever I have always found artistic interest and I could be kept busy in many other ways.

7) Is there somewhere we can see more of your work?
Besides UHH I have only posted on Flicker.

An interview with kmdriftwood

1) How long have you been into photography and what got you started?
since 1955 – was living in Kenya where everything is photogenic!

2) Have you had any formal training and what kind of photography do you do most?
no formal training but large appetite for photo mags & sites. - my photography is probably weighted towards scenery rather than people but is wide ranging, wildlife, flora & fauna, some macro, previously much technical photography as part of my work.

3) What inspired you to take your winning shot?
The entire beach ambience, where my wife & I were celebrating with birthday picnic.

4) What equipment did you use and was there any special setup?
Shot was taken with an early 2.1Mp Olympus 2040Z which shows big pixel counts are not essential to a decent image – altho' low on pixel count that camera has a cracking 1.8 lens. - handheld, no special set up.

5) Would you change anything if you could do it again?
In this instance no, I'm happy with it.

6) If you couldn't do photography what else would you do?
My other occupation, driftwood sculpture.

7) Is there somewhere we can see more of your work?
Not just now – tho' I am looking at putting up a photo site.

Thanks & regards
Keith McIntyre
