How to return pics from the recycle bin back into Picasa?

Somehow all my pictures earlier than 2008 that were stored in Picasa disappeared. They are in the recycle bin, but is there an easy way to return them to Picasa. I tried right clicking on a folder and hitting "restore" but they weren't put back in Picasa. In fact, I don't know where they went. My last child who was looking at early childhood pictures of herself swears she didn't do anything or click anything! Ant ideas out there?

Not sure where they are, but don't empty the Recycle Bin until you find them. If you remember any of their names (P105123.jpg or whatever), you can do a search for them.

Even if the images were moved from the Recycle Bin to a folder, such as My Pictures, Picasa might have "forgotten" about them. Once you've located them, though, you should be able to have Picasa reload them. I don't work with Picasa, but such programs usually keep track of the images with a database (organized list), and reloading the images should recreate that list.

Again, just be sure not to empty the Recycle Bin until you know your pictures are in there! Hope this helps.

It's possible that the files, for the pictures, were over written, and they can not be recovered. I agree do not empty the recycle bin, till you find out one way or the other. If restored, it should have put them back in the same folder they were deleted from.

Try doing a search for the name of the folder. Once you find it right click on it and send to .... either my pictures then import to picasa or send directly to picasa.

If the missing photos are really in the computer's Recycle Bin recovery is easy.
Double click the Recycle Bin icon.
Click on a missing file to highlight it and then click 'restore this item'.
If there is more than one file hold down the control key and click each image in the list to highlight and then click 'restore all items'.
The images will be removed from the Recycle Bin and returned to where they were when they were deleted.
Make sure you NEVER have your Recycle Bin set to to remove files immediately when deleted.
You can right click on Recycle Bin and click Properties to check or uncheck this. Been there, done that. Big mistake! Alas, I know more about computers than I do about my camera.

You can also do a search *.jpg These will show you the location of every image on your computer. If you see images listed in an unfamiliar place these might be the missing images.

Your images are visible for minor editing and viewing in Picasa. The images actually reside elsewhere on the computer. This is the likely reason the photos did not show up in Picasa. Do a new scan in Picasa to add images and the missing images will most likely show back up in Picasa. Good luck.

Did you check to see if you have any 'hidden' folders in Picasa?

Go into your Recycle Bin and look for yorpictures. Then write the name of 1 of them down and restore it. Then using your search bar, look for that picture. It should find it and I would bet that any other pictures you restore would be in there. Being that it is a picture it may be in your PICTURE folder. You may also look at where you normally put your pictures. Restore will always put the pictures of what ever files your restore to the last place that they were at.
Good luck.

KimW, you will understand now why I have all my photos duplicated on my desktop, laptop, outboard harddrive and on Carbonite.

Sorry for your loss and am hoping for successful recovery. I can suggest no more than has been presented by others here.

Everyone needs to learn from other's mistakes instead of learning them the hard way on our own.

After you restore from recycle bin you will find the pictures in your Picture file on computer. Go there and find the picture. Click on it and you should see it come up as an edit and asking if you want to edit in Picasa and you take it from there. Been there, done that.

Glad that you got them back. Not only do I have all my pictures on my computers hard drive, I also back them up to 2 different external hard drives. So if 1 fails I always have the back ups. I dont trust hard drives "not" to fail. Better safe than sorry and then having to try to recover files from bad drives. And most times you try to recover files you dont always get the ALL back.

Whenever failure happens there is a hidden lesson to learn. It is up to us to learn that lesson.
