WARNING Canon Sx 50 owners.
Yesterday afternoon, I started to take a photo and did two shots, then all of a sudden I got a Lens Error warning on screen. I tried changing battery's & memory cards but couldn't get it to work.
I decided to Google "Lens Error warning" and quickly learned that numerous people have had this problem and one guy said Canon refuses to do a recall.
Today I took it back to Best Buy and got a replacement. It was less than 4 mo. old
I love the camera so I hope it doesn't happen again. I also have the SX30.
Good luck.
I rarely buy extended warranties. However, with light weight consumer cameras and camcorders, I think it might be wise.
I had a $400 Sony fixed under a Best Buy extended warranty. Without it, I would have been buying a new camera.
I haven't bought the warranty yet, but I think I might.

I would think that would come under the original warranty. But for some things Best Buy with the extended warranty is a good deal. Keurig coffee makers, I have found, rarely last a year - so the last one we bought was from BB with the extended warranty, and true to form, it died after 10 months, so we walked in, picked out a new one - no problem.
I didn't have the extended warranty, they just exchanged it although you get a 1 yr warranty through Canon. I just hope it doesn't happen again.
Any info from cannon or others on what is causing the problem or what the problem is?

If you find an answer please pass it on. I was thinking about buying one.
Thanks

Do you have any filters/adapters attached to the camera?
The only information I have is what I got when I googled Canon SX50 Lens Error. There's quite a bit on there.
By lens error what do you mean...does it spell it out...or is it a yellow window with an exclamation point?
I have had mine for almost a year now and have had no problems...and there are some folks on here who I am sure have put their shutter counts at over 15,000...which is high for a camera thats been out for a short while...
Please let me know what to look for....thanks
Sometimes when you get an error message on anything electronic, remove the battery and put it back in, and that will reset the defaults. That work on most everything like cellphones, ipods, ipads and anything like them and no, you do not lose the memory if the battery is put back in within a couple of minutes.
It comes up as Lens Error, black letters on white screen and the telephoto won't go out and the shutter doesn't work.
Google SX 50 lens error.
I tried everything, I may be an old Hillbilly but I'm not plumb dumb.
As I said Google SX50 Lens Error or Canon SX50 Lens Error and you will see I'm not lying. The telephoto won't work and the shutter won't work.
Hi everyone
In the UK we have the Sale of Goods Act (as amended) which provides that goods must be fit for purpose, and should have the durability which would be expected by a reasonable person. This duty is conferred on the seller, and NOT the manufacturer. By law, Seller must replace or repair the goods, or refund all money. Is there not equivalent legislation in the US which would take care of these faulty cameras?
Hope you get your cameras sorted quickly.
