How to keep insects stopped for macro, without killing them?

some photographers capture and chill them (not freeze-- you'll probably kill them)

I don't. I prefer to capture them "au naturel". Early morning when they are more dormant is a good time.

Early morning yes, they good for shooting!
But these nocturnal insects, are attracted to the light and do not stop! if we get to cool, their plumage is damaged!
