I honestly believe that I spend more time thinking about what I don't want in the composition, than what I do.
If time allows you to plan your photographs, your images will become more than just snap shots.
The camera (photograph) captures a moment in life, the past is gone, the future does not exist.

Correct. Whether you plan on what content you want in or not; planning is key. The difference between snaps and prepared should be obvious to the viewer, barring the occasional 'lucky shot'.
