Well, wife just booked a trip to Belgium to surprise our son who is there staying with our Belgium friends who speak no english and he is a French Major doing total immersion in french.

She is going to surprise him when he returns from Prague, visiting our past exchange student who was with us for a year and is like a brother to Cameron.

Soooooooooooo, that means another trip or two visit to Best Buy to check out lens or to B&H for sales on a possible lens. Going to research either a sharp tele-photo or something in the 105mm range for macro.

Wife and I lived there in a small village near Mons for 6 years. Wanted my son to be immersed in French so therefore the Belgian families we knew from 1982 to 1988 while I was working with NATO at SHAPE ( Supreme Headquarters Allied Powers Europe )

One of the most sobering aspects of Belgium is the war cemetaries. A visit to Ypres is nice as well. There are many things there dedicated to the allied forces.

Correct. My only comments not favorable were the 265 average days of rain a year and the black ice. LOL

Belgium, except for the rain and black ice in the winter from fog is fantastic. Like Pennsylvania with the rolling hills. But the culture and history is out of this world. Beersel Castle, Bruge, Namur & places like Charleroi are beautiful.

My dad passed through Belgium during WWII and all of my life he spoke about the beauty of the countryside, the friendliness of the people, the kindness he was shown and the wish he could return some day. I imagine it as enchanting...

I have always enjoyed every trip there. It is a very old medieval city and it is still in use. It was founded around the time of Christ. Harold Goodwynson (SP)? the last true english king stayed there at the same time that William the Conqueror did. William is the one that defeated Harold in the battle of Hastings in 1066.
