I took an early morning walk along the Delaware Canal near my home and discovered a Wood Duck hen and 6 chicks. The canal has been drained for repairs and there are just some small pond sized puddles including this one that is covered in duckweed. The chicks scattered around so it was difficult to get a group shot. Mom wandered off to one end where I noticed a Painted Turtle sitting on a log. I sat down on the edge of the towpath and waited for the duck to get close to the turtle. The Black Swallowtail and Tiger Swallowtail butterflies were a bonus!
Canon 7D, 100-400 mm lens at 200mm, f/8, 1/1000 sec at ISO 1600, handheld for the first photo. Photo #2 and 3 were at 400mm, all other settings the same.
nice set birdpix, 7d must handle noise well at 1600 iso.
I haven't been able to get out this year due to having been hospitalised since very early on, so it gives me a great deal of pleasure to view pics like yours birdpix and the rest of the contributors on BIF & B_O_W_F thank you.
