Mt. Charleston is on fire.

Here is a pic I took Monday the 8th. It is a clear day in Las Vegas except for the smoke from the fires raging on Mr. Charleston. Truly sad.

This looks like a really bad fire season.

I'm sorry to see this in your area. We've had a nasty wildfire as well that grew to be quite large; the rains are finally helping to end it. Now there are flash flood warnings!

I have lived here 30+ years and this is the first time I have seen it like this. At least I don't remember it every happening here. The sad part is that this is a great area to go to this time of year to get away from the heat of summer.

It was mentioned in our newspaper, which is very small, today. How many acres has it burned? Have you had any rain? Here, too, we count on our mixed conifer forests to go to when it's hot closer to the desert, but between last year's 300,000 acre inferno and this year's fire, there doesn't seem to be much left. I hope things turn around for you soon.

I found out for you. The TV stations are always a day behind. Is this the Carpenter 1 Fire? The update 6 hours ago gave this information: The fire had burned 27,986 acres (43.7 sq. mi) and is 15% contained. Though the growth potential is high and the terrain difficulty extreme, higher humidity and increased chances of rain will help the firefighters. There was more but the place names mean nothing to me. The rain part is good news. Our fire is supposed to be "over" on July 21 at 12 pm. If it's not I'll do some complaining!

My thoughts are with you and all who are hurting from this wildfire, and for the firefighters.

I live in the south end of the valley. People closer to Mt. Chaleston are having their cars covered in ash.
