I currently own a Canon 5d mk 2 and a canon 1d mk ii I am looking at a Canon 5d mk iii. Have any of you had any experience with the new 5d mk iii and if so do you feel it is worth the extra money to upgrade from the mark ii.

I upgraded from the Mark ii to Mark Iii. What a difference. I Just love it, whereas, I was never that impressed with the ii, and actually regretted the purchase. The Mark Iii is a whole different story, and I tend to use it all the time even though I also have a 7D.

It depends,

I own both lenses, I shoot for a living. 5DMKIII has a faster frame rate so if you shoot sports that will help. It's a bit better in low light so if you shoot darker scenes handheld(or People) where you need higher ISO's it is better.
If you have the 600EX system it's much better. All of the radio wireless capabilities of the 600EX system is not available on the 5DMKII.

Hope this helps.

Shooting studio with strobes and shooting normal daylight shots where you keep your ISO below 1600...THe 5DMKII and the 5DMKIII are virtually indistinguishable in picture quality.

They are touting the cross point focus and the 61 AF focus points pretty hightly too. I suspect this again is more suitable to moving objects.

The 5DMk111 is certainly agood choice for all the reasons as explained by PalePictures. It does however still fall short on tracking moving subjects. I love the Mk111 but for sports i revert to my 1DMk1V which leaves the Mk111 for dead when it comes to action. The 7D is also better at tracking and fast focus on fast moving subjects.

The 5D MII is my back-up body, after using it for about 5 years, I upgraded to the MIII and I never did regret that move. To me, the AF alone is worth the upgrade and extra dough. I never had any issues with its tracking, works just splendid.
