PSE 10 Restore

I've been using PSE10 for about 18 months and like it, but now I have a problem. HELP! My old computer is in the process of dying so I bought a new one and unfortunately WIN8 was my only option :( . I made a catalog backup of the Catalog on three DVD's, and installed PSE10 on the new computer, but when I try to Restore the catalog with the old file structure, it just dumps everything into the Organizer's Media Browser File by date and ignores the file structure. I eventually found the file structure in the Windows picture file, but how do I get it into the Organizer?

I'm afraid that if I delete the pictures in the Browser, I'll also lose them from the Windows Pictures folder.

(ed. comment): I hate Win8, and I'm not new to Windows; I started with Win3.1.

Any help would be apreciated.

Jim

I hear you. I have been a PSE user since PSE 1 and a Micro computer user since the '80's and I have not figured out a reliable methodology to port from one computer/version to another; sometimes it works; sometimes not, and the vendor/user instructions are of little help. I agree that Win8 complicates the issue but hopefully Win 8.1 will help a little. Reliable, above is a keyword.

Thanks Bersharbp,

I guess I'll just have to abandon the old catalog after making jpeg copies on new DVD's, and start over building a new catalog on the new computer, but it sure seems like a lot of extra (and unnecessary) time consuming work.

Another option might be to uninstall PSE10 from the new computer and re-install it. When I first installed PSE10 on the old computer it went into the files and imported the pictures without being told. Now that the all the pictures are in the new Windows Pictures file, it might do that again ???

I heard that they (Adobe) are getting so many complaints, they are making a fix so Win7 users can use it a lot easier. Maybe that is the Win8.1 as mentioned above. Luckily I purchased my new computer before the change.

If you REALLY hate Win 8, (and I understand why), download a piece of software called POKKI. Its free and will give you a new start button on the desktop screen. Then every time you boot up, hold the Windows key on the keyboard and tap the D. You'll go right to your new Start Button.
