How often do your clean your lenses and when? Each time you use your camera? Or on a regular schedule? What procedure do you use?

I have a clear glass or UV filter on all of my lenses. Other than blowing off dust with a Rocket blower occasionly they rarely require cleaning. I never touch the filter surface and always have a hood on the lenses. When they do need more than a puff of air I use Zeiss Lens cleaning cloths that come moistened with lens cleaner. They are packaged in a small sealed package like the towelettes you get in some restaurants. ;)

Interesting comment. As for myself through the years, I have found any element in front of the lens does affect the image, unless absolutely necessary to use under the circumstances. They create more optical surfaces for the light rays to go through. I always get my best images without any interference in front of the lens. Maybe the post should have been for those people that don't use filters in front of their lenses.

Every time you remove the lens cap you should check for dust/debris...also before putting it back on your lens...check the back side of your cap...you may need a cold water rinse every now and then.

Well there are many opinions pro and con about the use of filters. Personally I have found a quality optical glass filter causes no problems and I always use a hood for its intended purpose. The Zeiss Lens cleaning cloths are for multicoated lenses and clean filters as effectively as a lens. You asked, I answered. ;)

I like the Zeiss cleaning wipes too! I have also found lens pens effective in the field.

I don't have a lens pen but I should have mentioned that I first use a lens brush to gently brush away any dust or gritty stuff off the filter (think lens) before using the wipes and like you I carry them with me in the field. :)

I'm trying to find an article someone posted here about a week ago. It showed that dust and scratches on a lens really don't matter. I'll keep looking.

In the meantime, here is the other extreme.

This will show you how much, or how little, dirt and scratches on the lens matter.

Blow off excess dust with a Giottos rocket blower and wipe over with a damp (just damp) tea towel

Don't shoot sports on the beach with spray or motocross then without filters

Just remember don't forget al lenses have TWO elements in direct air contact the front and the rear, remember to use a blower on the rear element also, NEVER wipe any glass lens or filter without blowing off any loose dust first, and always use proper cloths.

Here is my cleaning kit

OK. So your cleaning kit consists of the Giottos Rocket and a cloth. The other item is for personal use, yes?
