I want to upgrade, but would like to get a Canon. My husband is suggesting the Canon 70D, so I took a look at the specs and such. It looks like a good choice.

Anyone have any opinions or suggestions?

The majority of cost in any system is the glass. By switching manufacturers, you are forced to completely replace all of your lenses.

What lens lengths & manufacturers do you own for your Nikon camera?

I only have the 2 kit lenses that came with my Nikon (18-55mm and 55-200mm) and an old used manual macro lens off a film camera.

This was my beginners camera set up and I haven't added much of anything to it.

I would do a side-by-side comparison with DPREVIEW. The best Nikon comp is the D7100. Your best bet is to get them both in your hands and compare the feel and the lay-out.

Ultimately, it's going to be what feels best to you.

Good luck.

Thank you for your advice. I did the dpreview, but didn't look at the Nikon D7100. I'll go check that one out as well. We're going to the camera store tomorrow and hopefully I can check out some different things first hand.

I agree with what Nikonan72 and the LonerangeFinder said about having to change lens if you change brands and getting them into you hands. Something else to think about is the size difference. Your Nikon is smaller and lighter than the 70D. Here is a link for a side by side comparison of the two

Well, Nikon D7100 does not have an articulating screen and that is a must for me. Other than that, I'll still take a look at it when I go shopping.

Expect 7D to be upgraded before long.

http://snapsort.com/compare/Canon-EOS-70D-vs-Nikon_D7000 but I would strongly consider the D7100 with a 24Mp sensor.

Closest Nikon to the 70D Mpixel wise would be the D5200, has the swing out screen and comes in red color too!
Has all the HD video capabilities of the 70D and also high ISO.
You could use the lenses you already have too.
And you would still have money left over for added toys if you want ! :)
...I'm starting to think the Canon 70D may be over priced!?

The only Nikon's with articulating screen is the 5200, 5100 and 5000. Of them the 5200 is the newest and is by far cheaper then the Canon 70D, that is the camera to compare in this case.

Then there are Sony cameras that fill the criteria and some others as well.

Brilliant! Also a 24.1Mp sensor.

The D5200 is a great choice. If money is an issue why not consider the D7000 Possibly refurbished and use your lenses from you 3000, assuming they are VR. I bit the bullet on the 7100 but often wonder about my sanity. Not really, I really like the 7100 and have never regretted my decision. Look at the 5200 as a really good choice for an intermediate camera and the 7100 as, possibly an over kill this early. I think the VR designation is really important for lenses.

Yes, I have noticed Sony. I've not looked closely as of yet, but I've seen some ppls photos from a couple of Sony's and I've been impressed.

Thanks for the input. I plan on checking out a bunch of different brands and models and see what feels good in my hand.
