The last two are severe crops. I was so excited to see the quail babies marching along the sidewalk in my apartment complex...until I realized that as infants, they just look like chickens :)

But look what you got when you took the picture of the chicken on the post, Linda? And as for the babies....they ARE chickens. Same family. Is that a female Bullock's Oriole, Linda? Good shooting lady.

Nothing like bugs for lunch. Yummee. The quail chicks are too cute! Love the shot of mom (or is it dad?) on the post.

Thanks Joe! Bullock's Oriole for sure; I thought this one was juvenile, but certainly could be mom - I am quite a novice in the birding dept. And yes, chicken on the post was fun shot. Every time I see quail (and they are very common here), I smile.

Thank you Randy! That is a male quail on the post (that was today out by the kestrel and eagle nests). Not only are they pretty and funny - they much prefer race-walking to flying! - but they have several interesting calls/songs. Just a fun bird all around.

HA - I knew someone wouldn't be able to resist that one - just too easy :) Thanks for viewing, Raymond.

Definitely adult female, Linda. She's carrying her food. Juveniles would never carry food at this time of year. The competition is too great.
