The dog was just trying to protect it's owner, a natural instinct. Not handled very well by police.

The A.. hole cop lunged at the dog and brought this on by being a bumb a.. what in the hell did this stupid cop think would happen when he lunged at at the dog? I hate stupid people like him. Watch the cop go toward the dog.

What an ass. I probably would have shot the cop if I were there.....

I wouldn't have believed that had happened until I saw it, that (or those) rounds could have ricocheted into innocent people, and then of course why did the police take that action in the first place?.

That cop should be fired. I feel so sorry for the dog and his master.

I am almost always a supporter of LEO's, but this situation was handled very poorly. At the worst, they could have used pepper spray and/or a taser. The OIC should be severely reprimanded for not controlling his/her subordinate officers, the shooter should be suspended and incur a large RIP. I have dealt with protective dogs before and never had to even deploy my weapon.

On the other hand, the dog owner was obviously baiting those two officers. He is equally responsible for the unfortunate results.

I don't think the dog owner is responsible for anything as he has the right to photograph anything as long as its not obscene in public nor was he any close to the two officers to interfere with their affair.

Watch the video again and tell me he never taunted the officers. Then he puts his dog in the car with no restraint and the window down. He is as responsible for his dog's death as if he had pulled the trigger himself. But he is not the only one responsible. The LEO's over-reacted in the first place. It had nothing to do with his right to film the scenario. It was stupid behavior and possibly a case of racial profiling. No? What happened to the person filming the incident?

I have watched the video over and over again. When the gentleman was taking the video, the officers were asking him not to and as a gentleman he was walking away to his car with the dog.But the officers had to call him back and arrest him to prove their powers. I think that officer who shot the poor dog should be rewarded for his bravery. He is so well trained to make such a perfect close range shot on the dog. I think he should join the army.

I suppose a lot of interpretation of what happened depends on which side of the badge you've been on.

In reference to your last comment, why do you think he should join the army?

I think both cops should be fired and the shooter should have to pay a huge restitution to the dog owner. We are not vassals at their beck and call when they are feeling their "authority". They are servants and when they act like anything else then bye bye. I respect good cops but unfortunately they are becoming a rare breed and the federal militarization of the local police is aggravating an already bad situation in many cases.

I get aggravated at people who always suppose they can out-think an officer with 20-20 hindsight. Try getting behind the badge sometime and look at the view from there. Those officers answering that call were going in hot and dark. The manner in which the dog owner taunted the police and then put his dog at risk should face charges for objection of justice and interfering with an officer in the performance of his duty. Notice how much time he spent photographing two officers at the perimeter of the incident instead of the team charging the house. What was he looking for? Good shots of active cops, useless shots of police on standby or publicity for himself?

You being aggravated does not changed fact they were over stepping which you even admitted. Cops have authority from the State to use lethal force against citizens when necessary therefore they should and must be held to an extremely high standard. Be aggravated all you want but don't try and make excuses for over stepping egotistical cops. If they can't handle the stress and remain level headed they need to be removed, permanently.
