Should I shoot in raw or jpeg for fireworks? Or both?
You can always make a jpeg from a raw file so I would recommend raw only.
On another note....The July issue of Popular Photography has an article on shooting fireworks by "de-focusing". Essentially they describe approximately 1 sec exposure where the shot is initially out of focus, then brought into focus during the exposure.
Shoot in Raw, Manual focus, low iso f 11-16 experiment

Seriously, there have been several very got threads in the past couple of weeks, look for them. Maybe Jerry can revive a good one for you. Also I'm sure Nikonian has a good stash of them. Check the F&Qs.
Have a happy and safe 4th. Me, I've got some cherry bombs!! SS
Edit: shoot in the raw.
Thanks for the tips. This is my first year using manual for fireworks. Happy 4th & don't forget our vets.
