I'd be curious what kind of camera you are using. Aside from that, you need enough light to provide a fast enough shutter speed, and maybe a tripod and a steady subject all help. You can turn up your iso, open your aperture to it's widest (lowest f stop)and increase shutter speed to at least 1/60th. That would be a good start. You didn't mention if you are photographing a stationary subject or a moving one.

Here is the guide lines I use for handholding my camera:

Non moving subject: 1/30 or higher
Adults: 1/60 or higher
Children who can sit somewhat still: 1/100 or higher
Normal children: 1/200 or higher
Toddlers: 1/500 or higher

Aperture and ISO are set after I set the Shutter Speed.

If it is subject movement, you have to have faster shutter speeds and gain light from ISO and aperture. If it is camera motion, then at least a monopod, or better yet, a tripod.

I know they are cumbersome, but a quality tripod is a necessary part of a photographer's life

I have 5 ranging in size and weight and made of carbon fiber and/or aluminum....all by Bogan/Manfrotto. (could have bought another camera body for all that 'dough')

To avoid camera shake when not using a tripod, do what olympic sharpshooters do, breath in and exhail slowly, as your exhailing, take the picture....it works !
