This is good practice they were flying from rock to rock looking for food. The Heron just happened to come by, couldn't resist.

Small birds are notioriously difficult to get good focus on and you've done a pretty good job of it. It is especially difficult when the background is so close and detailed. It is great practice!
The Great Blue Heron is very well done! I might bring the exposure up by a half stop or so in post processing. It looks like you had a gray day and the camera was giving you an average light reading.
