I do all me post processing with aperture and photomatix. Lately I've been thinking about photoshop, seems everyone on here uses it. There are some nice things and effects that ps does allow you to do. There's so many versions, it's somewhat confusing.

If you do a search for Adobe CS2 you can find a free download for the old version of photoshop...its a good program...and you can get your feet wet in PS for free.

You can get Photoshop Elements, which contains many "elements" of Photoshop without the high price. Corel PaintShop is another popular program with a low cost.

Gimp is free software and open source. It will do virtually everything PS will do.

First off, I never recommend the full blown version of Photoshop to any one that is not a professional. Photoshop is very expensive. I won't argue whether it is a great program or not, it is, but has many features that an amateur would never need or use.

A good place to start, if you are interested in Adobe products are the 30 day trial versions of Photo Shop Elements (PSE) or Lightroom (LR). These two programs when used together will give you many of the features that the full blown version of Photoshop at about one third the cost. You will find that this is what most of us here use. They compliment each other very well once you learn how to use them!
