I recently purchased a sony slt 57 with some trepidation. There are so many excellent cameras out there that i soon developed a camera migraine from trying to pick the best i could afford and i settled on this one. It is a bit difficult to master but the photos are wonderful.
Can anyone tell me whether i did the right thing according to their own experiences? And also, if you have a moment to spare, please tell me why you reached your conclusion, whether negative or positive.
Thanks to everyone.

You did the right thing. It's the right thing because you are happy with the photos you are making. There are many cameras to choose from, while some folks have their opinions about their favorites for a variety of reasons, there really is no 'best' choice.

The Sony you bought will serve you well I suspect. It has some pretty cool features. I use another brand, but my choice was made out of loyalty and because I have access to lenses that work with the camera I chose. I think your choice was as good as any for the price point, maybe better than most.

In 1984, I began shooting with a Minolta that seemed the perfect camera for me. I was reluctant to go digital but when I did, I chose Sony. My A100 was purchased in 2007. It has given superb service. Many trips and wonderful memories have been recorded. No regrets here; no reason to change. As cameras go, the A100 is old, but so am I.

I have always found in life that once you make a decision you should not look back. Be content with your decision and work with your camera for your future photographic experience. - it will support you. And besides that philosophical approach - yes you made the right decision. Sony make great cameras. Relax and enjoy. :D :D :D

I have a canon T4i and just got the Sony a65.
A65 is great. the photos are so crystal clear and very colorful.
I love it and it's not heavy in my hands.
I'm not sorry one bit.
yeah, there are a lot of bells and whistles but I'll get it eventually.

I'm a long time Minolta user so my back catalogue of a-mount lenses made Sony a no brainer for me. If I'd been a long time Nikon user, I'm sure I'd be just as happy with Nikon; there are no bad DSLRs these days.

Even so, I'm very happy with the direction Sony is taking with the large EVF and the benefits that come with it, also with the on sensor PDAF and the move towards truly mirrorless cameras; SLT is just a transitional technology but the lack of a "flapping" mirror is already a great benefit. There are traditionalists who don't like the new technology but that's always going to be the case.

One thing is certain, Sony currently make the best Sensors so you won't be disappointed with IQ. Enjoy what you have and don't second guess your choice.

Anyone who buys an upper level, name-brand camera, did the right thing. No big brand companies are turning out junk. The exact brand and model are a matter of personal preference based on feel, and features.

like many others i started with a Sony (the a200)and only because the time i joined the Hog it appeared everyone was buying a new camera and i got caught up in the frenzy, the a57 and the a37 had just come out i examined both and went for the extra bells and whistles on the a57, the menu is easy to understand and as you have found out it takes beautiful photos
I have not regretted buying it for one second. have fun with yours.

I have 3 Sony cameras, the A57, A65 and RX-100, all are wonderful cameras.

The Minolta AF, Auto focus lenses, will all fit your Sony and no adapter is needed. Since you can buy good used lenses, they are very cheap compared to the Sony line.

Sony Alpha forum: http://www.dyxum.com/

After having done a lot of research on the Minolta lenses, here is what is considered the best of the lot, and a list of my lenses acquired since switching to Sony cameras.

50mm f/1.4 exceptional lens (no bag is complete without a 50mm) must have for low light
100mm f/2.8 exceptional lens
135mm f/2.8 great portrait lens, extremely sharp.

35-105 Macro - This lens will do (almost) true macro and is also great for portraits. If you look for this lens, they made 2 versions, you want the one with the Macro switch on the barrel of the lens. Very inexpensive for the quality, see link below. This lens is the one I use 90% of the time.

70-210 f/4.0 Beer Can again an exceptional lens. I feel it is just as good glass as my Canon 70-200 f/2.8 L - They made 2 versions of this lens, the BeerCan is the best quality.

75-300 f/3.5-5.6 - not the best lens but very acceptable if I need just a bit of longer reach.

I am a long time Konica and Minolta user. Shifting to the A100 was easy decision after looking over everything else, comparing prices and considering my experience. I am now using the SLT A77. I have had wonderful experience with all my cameras. Love Sony Cameras. Really love the SLT technology and the in camera image stabilization.
