New to DSLR
Hello from central Florida. I am new to DSLR. I used a Nikon P80 P&S for a number of years. I just got a Nikon D3100 and learning something other than "auto". Any help is most welcome. Had joined a photo club and thought it would help, but all they seem to talk about is photo exibits. Nothing about learning how to take the pic just how to show it. I got a Nikon 18-55 VR kit lens. Also just got a Nikon 55-300 VR lens. Learning how to use everything.
Hi Phishkillr, Welcome. I just joined yesterday and am hoping to learn a lot from this forum as well. I got my first dslr last March. It was overwhelming at first. I went online and did a lot of research on how to use a dslr. I also researched specific topics. For example, I would research 'using aperture'. I would read articles written by many different people, practice on my camera, until it started making sense. And I still am trying to learn what all the functions mean and do. Photography books and magazines are also great resources. Enjoy using your new camera.
Thanks, I think this will be a good forum. The club that I joined wasn't much help. They just wanted to show their pics. Not much learning of the camera going on, expecially for the newer people.
Hi phishkillr and welcome
I'm blondietyler from Philly and I'm about a month or 2 old on the suite. I have been shooting maybe not 50yrs but for a number of years. As a self-tough photographer, I was going to take some online Photo classes, because I wanted to increase my knowledge from a professional prospective, after all said and done it was going to cost me thousands of dollars, and at my age it would have been very stupid to put myself in that kind of debt. A friend told me about the club that he belong to and I check it out and I was glad I did. I belong to that club 2yrs now. My suggestion is to make a suggestion to discuss the topic that you need help with. You payed your yearly dues so you have the same rights as the the 5 and 10 years members. We have instructional workshops some free and some cost. We go on assigned subjects photo shoots, and they are critique we have difference speakers come and talk about the various subjects. So speak up. My mother always said ask for what you want. Much success.
Been thinking of going to a club that is in the next town that is bigger. They seem to do a lot more. Also they have been bringing in speakers and have some more talented people.
The club i am in now is in a small town of about 3000 people, so they don't have much they can do.
I think now you have joined the right club. You will find all levels of experts here which are better than salesmen. Photography is such an endless tunnel of learning and now digital technology is doubling it. After all there is no saturation point in knowledge and photos will just tease you for more. Good luck.
Hi Phishkillr! Welcome to the forum, I'm from NE Florida. I joined about a week ago and have already learned so much it's not funny,(well some of it is funny) but it is enlightening.
Your right, I think so also. It is great that all these people are willing to give the knowledge they have. I'm like you, I have learned so much already, my brain sometimes gets confused sorting it all out.
My son was stationed up at Eglin for a few years. I enjoyed going up there for fishing and the scenery. The only drawback is it was 8 hour trip, and I still wasn't out of Fl.
I know I have joined the right club. I enjoy reading about the different problems we have and the answers we get.
Yea Elgin's even a 6 hour drive from here, but well worth it to drive over there and fish some of the bayou's.
welcome to the site.. wasn't there a monty python movie where all they did was talk about what they were going to do? i haven't really looked into photo clubs because i don't have the time and i don't really see the value..
