Can you save multiple copies of a pic in a separate folder so you can experiment with them? I want to have a pic in B+W, sepia, and color so I can decide which one looks best (maybe post them and get y'alls opinion).

Use "Save As" and give each one a different name.

Ford Tri-Motor? I like the full sepia, which emphasizes the age of this late-1920s passenger/mail plane.

Yeah, it's EAA's 1929 Ford Tri-motor. It was out at my airport (St. Louis Downtown - KCPS) for 4 days this September, but it was only sunny for one or two of the days. Our chapter barely broke even. The hosting club has to provide $3,000 in support, be it fuel, hotel, money, etc. For some reason, there is a much bigger difference between the B/W and sepia in Picasa then on this forum page. If you send me your e-mail in a private message (and I can get it to work) I'll send you a copy of our chapter newsletter, which has a bunch of neat pics in it, including an aerial shot of the Arch.

Picasa keeps a copy of the original photo in a folder in the same folder as the picture named ".picasaoriginals". The period in front keeps it as the first folder. I.e.
D:\My Pictures\Aviation\Air Shows\VNA 2007\.picasaoriginals
Every time you edit the photo it keeps an additional copy. What I do is just copy them back to the parent folder. .picasaoriginals is a hidden folder so you would have to change the view settings to "show hidden folders and files".

I like the color one best. Nice shot

3 responses 3 different preferences.....
Actually I like them all, they each have a different flavor, and probably a different use. The sepia one would make a nice travel post card, looks "period". You might want to try some paint effects on the color one, it would make it look like one of the old painted post cards.

My girlfriend and I got to fly in this "Tin Goose" last year. Great plane to get aerial shots from, (low and slow). This was the second tri-motor that I have flown in; her first.
Backround in your pic looks like "Sunken Lunken" airport in Cincinnati, where we flew out of.
I like the color shot but I would try bumping the contrast and then posterizing it.

Picasa doesn't do anything to the original image.

Use "save as" and rename. You will have to use the "tools-folder manager" to re-scan the images in that folder to include the newly created image.

You sure can. Just do a "file save as" and give the picture a different name, like "sepia", added to the existing file name. Then store it in whatever folder you wish

I noticed when I save as picasa still replaces the original... I am not sure I understand the poster that was talking about hidden folders where the original is going? hmmmm

Every image has a name. Next time you edit & save an image, copy down the name of image. Then "Search" your computer for that file name. The result will give you the location as to where that (and all other) Picasa images are stored on your computer.

I directly download my camera images to a daily folder first (today's folder is 11-11-27). I then review my photos, saving best to new folder (11-1127 Best). I then open Picasa, find stored images, and edit, saving image under "new" name assigned by Picasa (usually a "-1" added to name). Both original and edited images are saved side-by-side.

ok - i save mine by date also - then if I crop or anything I click save as and I have to enter the one or A or whatever, picasa doesn't assign anything.... but when I save as it also changes the original to the same thing as the cropped pic that I am "saving as". What I end up with is two copies of the cropped picture. It also puts the cropped pic at the end of the file instead of by the original. hmmm, wonder why mine is doing differently than yours?
