All of these were taken with a Canon 50D using a Canon 28 to 135 lens with a Hoya Skylight filter. Sorry, I just can't recall the settings for these. The fireworks shot was somewhat difficult as I forgot to think about smoke and wind direction. The shot through the palms has Catalina Island in the distance. Really happy with this one. Finally the shot of the (spelling) Yahooe Glass which is on the sealing of a casino in Las Vegas. I've since had this photo made into tiles and placed directly above our stove in our kitchen. Adds a bunch of color to the Kitchen. PLease give me comments. I'm really a B&W Wet photographer who has retired and thus I'm now in over my head. But I do love it. Thanks for comments.

I like all of them. The only thing I'd do differently is I'd straighten the horizon on the second image. This is a rookie mistake that you will soon learn is easy to overlook and easy to fix.

I love the fireworks. The beach shot is beautifully composed, but the color is too strong for my taste. Leveling the sea would help. I saw that glass in Vegas, too. The artist has a hard name to remember and spell, but he had an huge exhibit in NY a few years ago.

Thanks for your comments. I really appreciate them. Your probably not going to believe this but the color in the shot of the setting sun over Catalina was NOT touched in post work. All I did was to crop it. I tried leveling the photo but it looked too boring. So I left it the way it was when I took it. Also on that same shot, I had taken many previously while on the tripod and finally thought that it was all over and went back to my car. As I was putting my gear back into the car I looked one more time and thought it looked pretty good. So I shot it by hand, no tripod. Ten seconds later it was all gone. But like I said, I didn't tough it in post work other than cropping. Thanks very much for your comments. Love to hear other peoples view.

I have never seen the glass in Vegas but I believe the artist is Dale Chihuly

You know, as I was writing that, it occurred to me that it might be as-shot. I have seen some sunsets that looked unreal.

Wow! Thanks for the correction on the name and spelling. I know how it sounds but just couldn't write it out.
Thanks so much.
Bob

Well Rolsen7650 these are not church scenes lol. You said you were a "B&W Wet photographer who has retired", perhaps you should have posted them in B & W. I think they look fantastic in B & W IMHO.

I fully understand what you are saying about lining up the horizon. However, in post work I tried that. Problem was the metal fence seemed out of whack when I did that. So I sort of cropped it between the horizon and the fence. Probably a mistake on my part. Knowing what I ran into, would you say that I should still have left the horizon as my horizontal line? Love to hear what you say about this. Bob

Nah, They need color. And I sometimes shoot for our church but that is not what I like to do. I don't mind shooting people but I can control scenes better. If I had a model it would be different but most of the time I'm shooting normal people. So you have to take what you get. Thanks much for comments. Bob

Not Bob, but the horizon is the thing that should be level...
Cheers,
Ron.
