Does anyone here use a portable printer out in the field? One that you can link the camera to without a computer. Looked in the search thread here and have been searching online, but am wanting to hear from those who actually use a device like this. Found the Canon Pixma IP100, but reviews were all over the board. Go to many events and folks are always asking if the photos I take are available. Would be great to print what they need on site.
Thanks in advance for your help on this!

I have an IP90. When it breaks I will get an IP100. The prints are good. I have a 50 pound Canon Pro 100 that does better, but it won't run on batteries or fit in my bag. There are few, if any, other choices in the portable category.

I have an HP A616. Does 4x6. Recharges from the car, wall or computer. It's about 10x4x4, weight is about 5 lbs. Prints from SD, CF, XD, MS or USB from camera. Very nice. HP ink is a little pricey, though.

Thanks for the reply. This is what I am looking for, photographers who use a portable printer out in the field. I know that there are not many selections in this line of printers and most only print up to a 4x6. Not sure if that would suffice with regards to the general public, so was looking for a printer that would print at least up to 8x10. Am I wrong in this thinking?

Thank you! If I go with a home type printer, would most likely need a trailer with a generator to power it. Really would not like to go that big, hence the portable idea. I looked at the IP90 as well. Good to hear that you are pleased and going to upgrade with same.

If you do want the quality of a "real" printer, consider a Honda EU1000 generator. They are $800 but make a perfect duplicate to the sine wave power from a household outlet and are nearly silent. They are small enough to fit any car trunk. You would not need a trailer at all.

The other choice would be a one or two "deep cycle" batteries, a charger and an inverter. Heavier, but cheaper, they would also power any printer you already own and could fit in a trunk. No rocket science is involved. Fisherman use setups like this for their electric trolling motors.

Appreciate the feedback on this product. It really had mixed reviews on amazon. Some really bad ones that were making me think otherwise on this product.

I sorted the Amazon reviews "newest first" and most were very positive. Some vented with anger because they didn't get a free USB cord. A few had paper jams, which probably would be fixed with an exchange under warranty. One was upset because his Mac didn't seem to want to work with a wireless connection. 75% gave it 4 or 5 stars. I think that's pretty good.

I have a canon ip100 and very happy with the quality of the prints - also the battery seems to last a long time between charges. Not used it away from my computer but i'm sure it would work well - its small and neat - ideal for location prints.

Yes, there were many who complained about not having the cord, but paper jams seemed to be the major problem and the fact that they were on their second or third printer. Again, like all reviews, sorting through them can be an eye opener for or against the product.
Having spent a few more hours last night, the Canon IP100, for a truly portable printer and one capable of the larger photo's, is going to be the best answer for my solution.
Again, thank you to all who responded to my question. That is what makes this site so great!

Thanks, but looked at this one and it will only do up to the 4x6. Would like to have the capability of up to 8x10.

I would think that you would want to PP before printing. I just hand out a card to anyone that wants a pic and if they contact me, I just send them the PP'ed image.
