slight lens 'wiggle'?

I just noticed that my I can move my lens ever so slightly when it is atttached to my camera. It really is a very tiny amount, and I just noticed it last night while using for fireworks..on a tripod.

Should I be worried? Doesn't seem to be doing anything to photos.

What is moving? Is it a zoom lens?

If the entire lens body is moving in relation to the camera/mount that isn't good.

A zoom will sometimes have a bit of wiggle between the part the part that slides and the lens body.

My Canon 28-135 "feels" very sloppy but I don't notice any problems in images taken with it.

There should be no movement, have the lens and camera serviced since you have to be able to duplicate the problem for the manufacturer.

I don't know for sure, this is just what I was told by the guys at B&H.

A very small amount of "wiggle" is normal. Should not be a problem if it doesn't move past the locking "pins". I've never noticed any light leaks. I just spent $1300 on a canon "L" lens, and that slight wiggle is there. You may want to contact a couple of different places, such as the manufacturer. A repair shop might give you wrong info just to get the $$.

Just what I've been told???

Is the "wiggle" between the lens and body? If so the mount on the body may have some screws coming loose or the mount on the lens may be doing the same. Or is the "wiggle" more in the focus/zoom. Assuming it's a zoom. Could be a very simple repair if it's between body and lens. What camera and what lens?

Cosmo,
Hey it happens, even happened to me at the tents for fashion week, wound up costing me a couple of hundred to change the Camera's connection ring.

The wiggle is normal. Too much misinformation in this thread. If there was absolutely no wiggle you would be unable to twist the lens on or off. I shoot with canon's top body and one of th top lenses (1DMK IV/70-200 II) and I get a small amount of wiggle. I have shot in every type of weather and never had an issue. Please; if you do not know the correct answer don't give what you think is correct. That can cause confsion.

I have a Canon 70-200mm f2.8 L which has a mounting plate held by three screws which occassionally come loose. When that happens the lens starts to wiggle.....solution....tighten the screws.

I'm assuming you have a DSLR. Take off your lens and inspect the mounts. Tighten the screws. The lens mount to the camera should be solid without wiggle.

Hope that helps.

Thanks to everyone, but Alan is correct. There are no loose screws or anything else, and the 'wiggle' is not enough to affect the contact connection between lens & camera body.

I just returned from a trip & met with a trusted friend who is also a pro photographer. He held my camera and assured me it is fine. Definite contact & certainly no light getting in. The wiggle is not bad.

So 'problem' solved.

We certainly don't want to cause any "confsion". Just joking. I tend to throw in my 2 cents on repair issues after 23 years in camera repair.
