Canon Rebel T2

At least I think it was a T2 or T3?
Anyway, hello all.
I was at a dog event this weekend and the photogpraher was using a Rebel I think T2. She said she got the kit for about $500?
The results were amazing. These were fast moving dogs and handlers. It was inside a gymnasium, totally articifial light. She got excellent pictures of difficult subjects.
Any comments on this camera?
Thanks,
Wendy

They are good cameras but I would bet it had more to do with the photographer than the camera. He probably had lots of experience and learning along with it.

Oh yes of course she does a lot of things. But she said it was the first event like this she has covered and is primarily a videographer. But of course you have to know just when to hit the shutter button!

I have a T3 and love it. I feel like I have turned out some good shots and plenty of bad shots. The two you mentioned are on the lower end cost wise as far as DSLRs but can do a fantastic job, but the more expensive models and lenses have better quality glass, and probably produce better shots after you know what you're doing (which I really don't).

What lenses do you have with your T3? Did it come as a 'kit'.

Yes it came with 18-55mm and a special bundle deal which included 75-300. I believe it was all $499 about a year ago.

Do you miss that middle part of the lens set up? That was one of the things that the photographer said she did.
Thanks for your input,
Wendy

Well, I am always resisting buying more lenses, since eventually I think the pressure from seeing all the beautiful pics I see here from folks with expensive equipment means I'll probably give in and go for better stuff if I ever get good enough to warrant it. Right now just trying to be happy while I learn. I just recently purchased the Canon SX50 because of all the praise here. I wanted it for travel, but the T3 is beginning to gather dust while I learn it! Great camera with great range.

I have the SX 50 and love it and have great results from it, but it is slow compared to using an SLR. I have a Nikon D40 that I love also but the lenses are soooo expensive but I enjoy the speed of that.

I have seen very nice Rebel 3s at the pawn shops around $350.00 with lenses. You may check it out. That is where I aways buy my cameras....just make sure it can be returned in case you a damaged one

That's a great idea. Can you use any Canon lenses with the Rebel or just the EOS lenses?

There are two different camera with the T3 number. The T3i and the T3. The T3i is an advanced capabilities model with a better sensor. The T3 is an entry level camera with a smaller sensor. Both have been discontinued. As far as kit lenses are concerned the new model cameras are equipped with step motor lenses designated by STM that focus in virtual silence and much faster than previous models. In addition, the 18-55 STM lens adds an additional blade to the diaphragm for increased bokkeh.

Had one, liked it fine. Sold it for $225 and got a T4i because of the movable screen; like it fine also. Still got a Sigma 18-200 Canon, selling for $200.

There is no T2. There is a T3, which is Canon's entry level dSLR and there is a T2i which is a somewhat higher level body but is now 3 generations old, superseded by the T2i, T4i and T5i. But the aging T2i is still a very competent camera. Much of the results you saw were probably due more to the lens used and the skill of the photographer rather than the specific camera body used..
