How cool is that!!! We have an RR park here, but only for riding. They won't let anyone but staff drive. What a fun day could be made of that place. Between driving trains, viewing scenery, and doing some photos.

Hey Bob, you have Maricopa live steamers up in the Adobe Dam regional park.
The Adobe Western Railroad is located on 43rd Avenue across the street from Wet 'N Wild Water Park just south of Pinnacle Peak Road in north Phoenix.
It is about 2 miles west of I-17 and a mile north of Loop 101.
http://www.maricopalivesteamers.com/They are very friendly people. I went there in 2009 when I lived in Apache Junction.

TrainNut,
I didn't know that. Probably because that place is almost to L.A. from Tempe, just kidding. Thanks for the information, I'll have to check that out.
I've a British friend here who is very much into railroading (one of his relatives worked on the Mallard). I'll have to let Mark know and hopefully he and I can take a trip out there to check it out. If not, I'll take a trip out there myself.

It was 50 miles from Apache Junction, all city driving.

Per Google Earth, it's about 32 miles for me, almost all on I-10, and I-17.
Thanks again,
Bob
So cool. That's a great way to spend a weekend.
Check out the link there is probably a club near you. Some private tracks will invite you if you send them a email.
I go up on saturday and help work on the track or buildings. It is great to get out in the woods and watch the wild life. We saw a red fox and when he saw us he made a big loop around us and me without my camera.
What a cool series of photos trainnut! Thanks so much for sharing!
What a great layout and neat trains.
