I see a lot of really nice pet photos on this site and I have one "newbie" question. How do you take an indoor photo of a pet without having their eyes glow like the hound of the Baskervill?
It is quite dreary outside so I am indoors using a flash.
Thank You

I have five cats and it is hard. I have found that the best time to photograph them is during the day. As their eyes don't seem to glow as much. Also, I take the photos when they are sitting in a window so I don't have to use my flash. But if I have to shoot at night with a flash, I always shoot off my flash first before I take the photo. Sort of like eliminating "red eye" on people. If you want me to post some examples, Id be happy to post. I can't post to this without your permission (new rules). Cheryl

Sorry for the quick hi-jack...what new rule? I thought the new rule was about altering other people's photos.

Apparently, unless I read it wrong, you can't or shouldn't post your own photos on someone's thread unless they give you permission to do so. But, if it is asked by the person beginning the thread it's okay (i.e. "show me your...") Cheryl
where are these new rules & how does one know when new rules come out?
hahahahaha...my dyslexia strikes again... sorry poo
I bounce the flash..
or use my Canon 60D with 50mm f1.4 :)
not much light 50mm with f1.4
The new rule is as follows "Please do not edit and re-upload other people's pictures without their explicit permission. In other words, you may not open someone's topic, download an image, edit it (that includes adjusting settings, cropping, adding/removing visual elements, etc.), re-post it, and say "here is a version of your photo that I like better" unless they specifically ask for it."
Looks like you can post pics on other people's threads; you just can't download them and edit without their permission.

That's the way it reads to me, you can insert your own pic but not download theirs and repost them photo shopped to death.
So I will post one of my cat in the only way so far I have found to keep his eyes from glowing...when he's sleeping. :)
I'll play... here is one of my little princess, Asics.
