i thought i found something good but it turned out to be a "June" beetle, aka Figeater beetle.

When I was a kid would catch these beetles tie a piece of sewing thread around them then let them loose holding on the one end and they would fly around ln a circle. Would entertain us for hours

We did the same thing. We called them our 'beetle kites'.
