You might want to post your settings if you are asking for help. I can't really say what to fix, but I know there are some who could tell you better if given more info. I think a little tweak could get more detail on the surface of the moon...

I wasn't able to get any details of the moons suface at all
I was using a Nikon AF-S 55-200mm lens on a Nikon D40 camera
on A F6 setting and shooting off hand with out a tripod.
I tried a higher F setting but couldn't hold the camera steady enough.
