I've been taking 80-125 pictures for friends functions/parties which end up to be too large of mega bite files to send to them by by email. Sometimes I put them into a slideshow with music. What's a good way to send these pictures to them without having to use a zip file? I heard maybe SmugMug is a good program or Picasso.
Does anyone know of a good program that works well?

I think it would be best to put all that on a photo CD and snail mail it to them. it's what I do with a huge amount of photos.

Try Dropbox. Dropbox.com. You can also do it through Flickr.

Other than DropBox I also use:
http://www.wetransfer.com/

It is a free FTP (file transfer protocol) site. Works really well although it is still more convenient to zip your photos into one file for uploading using this service.

You specify the file to upload, enter the destination and your email address plus a short note and you are done. They send an email to the recipient and notify you when the file is downloaded. You can have multiple recipients.

No nags or spam and the ad wallpaper during upload is interesting (artsy).

Did I say the magic word? FREE

I have used Flickr, DropBox.com, box.com, Smugmug. When I want to put them up for friends to download I use Box.com, that way when I know they have got what they want I can remove them from box.

Flickr is great but for having the receiver download photos, as far as I can tell, it has to be done one photo at a time. Facebook photos do not have much pixel power, and, again, you have to download one photo at a time. So that is not an option for downloading any. With Dropbox you have 2G for free, or more for a fee. You can use the Amazon.com cloud drive and get 5G for free. But if you are creating slideshows with music, the best quality would be sending a Cd or DVD by mail. Of course, if the people with whom you want to share are only going to LOOK at the photos and not download them, except for just a few, flickr.com is great for photos and small video clips and vimeo.com is good for a whole video or slideshow...but it is not for downloading.

Wonderful explanation. This really helps.
You are so kind and thoughtful in sharing this information.
Thank you so much.
I recently lost my wife to cancer, so I thought I would buy some camera equipment and take pictures for people as a hobby not profit. This helps fill my free time and it allows me to help others by capturing special moments
as memories for them.
So I'm new at photography, but having fun with it.
Thanks again for your kindness and help.

Zip and send via yousendit.com. Simple. I use it almost everyday for business purposes.

I have Dropbox, that just send from your phone to your home computer or the other way around, doesn't it?

Don,
I am into photography for similar reasons, I am about to conclude I like Flickr when I want to leave to pictures up on the web for an extended time. And Box.com so friends can download a whole folder at a time. The only drawback is Network speed, which is not a problem for me but some users may have to start the download just before going to bed and let it run overnight.
