I don't know if this is true, but it's pretty clever if it is.
The City of Dallas, Texas passed an ordinance stating that if a
driver is pulled over by law enforcement and is not able to provide proof of
Insurance, the car is towed.
To retrieve the car after being impounded, they must show proof of
insurance to have the car released. This has made it easy for the City
of Dallas to remove uninsured cars.
Shortly after the "No Insurance" ordinance was passed, the Dallas
impound lots began to fill up and were full after only nine days. Over
80% of the impounded cars were driven by illegals.
Now, not only must they provide proof of insurance to have their
car released, they have to pay for the cost of the tow, a $350 fine, and
$20 for every day their car is kept in the lot.
Guess what? Accident rates have gone down 47% and... Dallas'
solution gets uninsured drivers off the road WITHOUT making them show proof of nationality.
I wonder how the Justice Department will get around this one?
Except for first paragraph, it's just another urban myth being spread by unresearched emails.
I sure hope it's true, and other cities and states catch on.
I'm in Dallas. He's right. You'd better have insurance. However, this is not limited to Dallas. And the offenders are not just illegal immigrants. I was involved in an accident when a woman ran a red light. No insurance, and she was not illegal.

May be. Couldn't find it on Snopes. What is your source?

My state has the same law, you need proof of insurance in the car in case you're pulled over. If you check you'll find several states have the same law. Ours has been in effect for the past 10 years.

Yeah, but will they tow you if you don't have insurance or just give you a ticket? In Texas they can check with your insurance company to actually make sure you DO have insurance.
I think this is excellent! Illegal or not, no insurance should equal no driving!

I guess I'm not sure I've always had insurance so I've never paid much attention.

Thank you. So it's not completely an urban myth then...
There's got to be a better/alternative way than having insurance on everything we own !
Maybe we could swap an arm or a leg in exchange....wouldn't be any different really!
Indenturing your kids and or grand kids for a number of years would work too, maybe!?
My city/county/state invents way to separate me from more and more of the less and less
money I have left and since we can't go back to the old ways of settling things,
(old west style) we have to become more diversified or inventive, no !?

I didn't say it was ..... I clearly indicated in my first post that the first part of the original item is true ..... The parts about 47% accident reduction (never substantiated) and "lots filling up after 9 days" and 80% being driven by illegals, etc. is purely urban myth that continues to be perpetuated by these emails that are not fact-checked by anyone for 2-3 years.
