I am just curious as to what build and model you think is the best Nikon lens. I am thinking of the 3 areas:
1) prime
2) zoom tele
3) zoom wide angle
What I am curious about is what you think is Nikon's all time best built and performance lens in the 3 areas I have selected. Nikon has many lenses but they are not all the best. Just looking for the stand outs. Thanks for your input.
My personal choice would/is the Nikon 14-24 f/2.8, 24-70 f/2.8 70-200 f/2.8 , Don't really need any others although I do have others but they sit and collect dust.

I agree with OnDSnap and I would add for your consideration the Nikon 16-35 which is less than the 14-24 and Rockwell for one considers better. As for prime there are lots of choices- from a nifty-fifty up to 800 mm and the one(s) to pick would be those that best accommodate you specific needs. ;)

Agreed.
For a prime, my vote would have to go to either the 50 or 85 f/1.4.
Thanks for the replies. Awesome picks!
14-24 f/2.8, 24-70 f/2.8 70-200 f/2.8
Primes 50mm1.4 too much of a bargain to miss out, 300mm 2.8, and 85mm 1.4
but then I havent tried the 500mm, 600mm and 800mm!

Do any of you have a 180mm on a full frame?

Agree and have these - funny thing, however - I use the 28-300 the most. I use the others only when the circumstances seem to call for just that lens.

I use my dx 18-300 on my d7000 quite a bit also. Do you find yours to be sharp throughout or soft at each far end of the lens?
