The Moral of this problem is as ever, Do Not install anything from NORTON.

Norton Programs have a really bad reputation from way back, but survive mainly from Vigorous Advertising and often by being on your Computer when purchased.

Berchman`s suggestion is a good starting point, if that does not cure it come back here again

Agreed...Norton is a poor program and on top of that hogs memory to the point of slowing down even brand new machines.

Malware, spybot and trend micro are all good free programs that have gotten me out of a few jams...

Have you tried system restore?...go back 5 weeks or more...it will delete programs you have installed since then but will keep your files intact...just a thought.

Thanks, tried sys restore but "Expert Techs" even screwed that up.
Will tear it down and do full restore with discs.

Got to be a catastrophic software problem...I find it hard to believe that hardware and software would go down at the same time...give your thread some time here...there are some very savvy computer people here...I am not one of them....

Thanks, full restore to original is the way to go now.
I cannot believe what a mess they made.
Changed so much.

They went beyond "root" whatever that is.
I am afraid that no matter what I would correct at this point, there would still be residual problems hiding and waiting to pounce.

This is what I did after spending hours with a Norton tech from another country far, far away. What a nightmare! I've had no problems with free Avast. And I will keep the originator of this post in my prayers!

Remove Norton as soon as you get the PC if it is installed, then run the Norton removal tool to clear it right off, then install Avast, a free program with a small footprint. It is one of the best you can get. :-)
