It's that time again to "Hit Us with Your Best Shot" of the past week. (Or another week if need be). Tell us what you set out to accomplish with your shot or maybe something you learned in capturing the image. Looking forward to seeing your "Best" pick of the week. This past week my big "accomplishments" were making and adding a signature (didn't mean for it to be so big in #1), trying some different PP filters, and
.
Working on layers and effects. This is a "pseudo" HDR in one of my programs.
Layers, rain and a spotlight rays filter. A year ago, I had no clue on how to do this.
Goal was to capture a clear shot with the wings open and not compromise the vibrant color of the flowers. I used Aperture priority mode f8 1/100 shutter speed. All I did was sharpen the picture slightly and crop out the hanging pot wire
My goal with this one was to have fun with my water camera and to see if I could capture minnows with a camera instead of a pail
A few scenes from my part of the world.
grass and wire

Good start Pat. Here is one.
Used for the cover of a book
While driving around the local lake, I noticed some flying insects that the evening sun's reflected light appeared to make them glow. Naturally I jumped out of my car and tried to capture the image. I failed miserably. The photos were not at all what I was trying to show. So, the next evening the conditions were similar and I tried again, using my 70-300 mm zoom to get in closer. Better, but still not what I envisioned. After thinking about it for a while, I went back a third time, setting up the camera and lens on my tripod, increased the DOF so there was a better background and started snapping away. Returning home, I used a Star Tracking software to stack 9 (out of 267) of the images to achieve my original concept. The whole process taught me think about what I was trying to do and how to achieve it.
Stacked images of insects swarming by the lake
The first one is a re-try on a black and white. The first time it was too dark. I did not want the left building to take away from the shadows. So I tried to figure out what else I could do. I do not know if this is better or worse. You tell me if it works.
The second image is my first efforts at iphone use. It turns out be to one of may favorites. I learned that iphone do take acceptable photos.

Pat
thank you for starting the challenge...That butterfly shot is magnificent and I really like that you just want to have fun sometimes...Isn't that what it should be all about?
Here are a few from todays shoot.
GG got busy at work so I wandered around and just really liked how these coils looked and of course I SAW RED
The sky was so blue and the air so crisp I was trying to figure out a way to capture it...these purple flowers were growing out of a sandy soil very close to a rock and I liked the soft and hard and grey and purple and blue....HAD TO GET DOWN PRETTY LOW FOR THIS ONE. OY
poor thing is missing a leg

The second shot is wonderful. The composition the softness and the antique look all go together.

I am trying to imagine those coils in B&W. I am willing to bet that the gray tones could be wonderful. The second shot is well composed even if you had to get low for it. As for the third one, have you ever had dog for a meal? This one would be like french cooking, more plate than meal.

Aunt Mary, thank you for telling us how this one image came to be. You look at something and can think it was a simple snap of the shutter - NOT. Glad you persisted.
