Fixer, I had a TZ-3 and was pleased for a long time.. but kew that later was better since a lady at the CClub and I did a side by side shot ... her TZ-10 was much better.... so I went with the TZ-30/ZS20 because I knew exactly how to use it ... right... looks the same as TZ-3... WOW different bird in that cage!! If you are pleased with the TZ5 you will be astounded by the TZ30!!! Astounded!!

I have the Sony RX100; yes, it is pricy, but the IQ is excellent and the Zeiss leans sharp. True the zoom range is limited, but this is by far the best P&S camera I've used. Even the full auto modes are very capable and low light performance very good. If you don't need high zoom ratio, this camera is a gem.
Read the link, the top three point and shoot cameras are covered at the summation tab, I still think the ZS 30 to be the best, I just took mine out of the box, you can get them for $350, I think they are a great camera with a wide range of features that fit into a shirt pocket, check out the link, not a quick read but I think very informative, My TZ 5 took very good low light pictures in Antelope Canyon with out a tripod, this new camera I hope will be so much better, check out the link if for nothing else a different perspective

I bought an RX100 as my primary camera. I don't, for now, want to invest in a heavy and bulky DSLR kit. The RX100 has two key features. It has a relatively large sensor and easily fits in one's pocket. It is so small that I frequently screw on a gorilla pod just to have something to hang on to. Picture quality constantly amazes me. 13"x19" prints dazzle!
If you follow an RX100 forum you will find owners that find say they frequently grab the small camera and leave the big stuff behind.
My wife has an LX7 as her primary camera. It is a little to big to fit in any of my pockets, but she easily gets it into her purse. It has a smaller sensor and more zoom. Her pictures continually amaze me.
Both shoot raw and good HD video.

I need to purchase a P&S (my old Nikon Coolpix has died it's last death)...Looked at the Nikon 1_ S1 , to slow a lens. I need something for low light situations. Was looking at the Leica D-Lux 6. Then in doing a search here, came across the Panasonic Lumix, looked up the Panny DCM-LX7, both have Identical f1.4-f8 lenses and the rest, pretty much identical cameras, and has a much higher rating. Just wondering if anyone has the Panasonic and their thoughts?
Thanks much
I have a lowly little $125 Panasonic DMC-SZ02 with a Leica 10X zoom and a Panasonic DMC-FZ-30 bridge with Leica zoom. You couldn't pry them out of my cold dead fingers if you tried. The two you're comparing might even be the same identical camera with different names and prices... the Leica being higher just because of the prestigious name.
Zenith camcorders made by JVC. Toyota Corolla built in a California Chevy-Toyota partner plant. Fuji camera models made by Pentax. Hyundai owns Kia. Sony making Nikon sensors. Amana microwave ovens made by GoldStar. All chromed Japanese motorcycle parts coming out of the same Yamaha chroming facility. You know how this works...
Look at it this way... you could buy two Panasonics, one after the other, for about the same price as one Leica. If they are reviewed as being equally as good, why not save 50% and buy a second one if the first one dies or falls overboard or down a cliff?
Fixer... envy,,, much envy... will live with my ZS20 for a few more years... dare not look at the ZS30 you just bought.

I like the compactness (thickness) of both, a plus if I'm out on a date with wifey, didn't need Captain Kangaroo pockets as would be needed with some of the others I'm considering. Heading over to B&H today...try a few out, it's a short ride for me so I don't need to purchase today...
With that said I will tell you that the LX5/7 is not a pocket camera, well maybey not a shirt pocket but it will fit in a coat pocket. Also keep in mind there is an optional electronic viewfinder that slips into the hot shoe so if your on a sunny beach you can hold it up to your eye and see real good. It also has all of the manual adjustment that my D90 has (just about)
On the link that I gave you in the summation tab he talks about the SZ20, it was the top of the line last year, he rates it very highly, my TZ5 is a great camera, just to slow to take a picture, the new one push the button and it goes click, that feature alone is justification for the new camera, The down side is the operators manual at 314 pages, NOT just point and shoot, this is like a SLR and bag of lenses and filters that fits in a shirt pocket, the GPS will take some time to figure out, you load a map on the SD card and it tracks you and every picture where you take it. They say that you can actually navigate with it, but then the disclaimer not to use it??? I can hardly wait to go back to Yellowstone and Antelope Canyon, my two favortie places to go :>)
I use a Sony DSC-HX9V 16x Zoom, 16.2 megapixels and love it. Sharp with crisp colors.

Do you know where I can buy one?
I have the Panasonic LX7; it is a great camera. It is hard to believe that such sharp and high quality images could come from such a small camera.
