My first attempts at "Light Painting". I found it very enjoyable and is really great when weather keeps you inside. Here are two examples for your comments, suggestions and criticisms.

I use a Canon Rebel Xsi, shot on a tripod, bulb setting and remote release. (F5.6 thru F11 and from 6 to 20 seconds.)

Nice shots man.... I also played a bit with this effect recently, and found that the "key" to success ( as your shots prove) is having a small concentrated light beam. Can't wait to give it another whirl....that pool ball shot gives me inspiration to try again.

I especially like the first photo. I have been playing with different programs here lately due to some mobility issues and can't get out to take photos. It is amazing what you can create right in your own home. Good job, Cheryl

Light Painting, as I understand it, is kind of the opposite of "normal" photography. Instead of capturing the existing light, you start with no (or very little) light, open the shutter and then paint (add) your own light.

In the case of the pool balls, I started with a dark room, opened the shutter, briefly shined a small flashlight on each ball and then shined a small LED light all around each ball. I then closed the shutter (remotely) and was surprised myself how nice it came out. The possibilities are endless and it's fun and challenging.
