I am looking at a CanonT3 with the kit lens. Yes I know I should look at higher level cameras but I will leave that for another discussion.

I have read the online manual and can not find anything about a remote shutter release.

As unstable as I am (physically) (mentally not bad) I feel a remote release would be my best bet for close up photography.

How far up the Canon or Nikon food chain do I have to go to be able to use a remote shutter relase?

The Canon T-3 will take a wireless remote control shutter release the RS-6

It will also take the wired remote control shutter release the RS-60E3.

I'm surprised it doesn't. The 4/5/600D series [not sure what they are called where you are] all do. I've used them all with Chinese wired remotes [cheaper and every bit as good as the Canon] - no problem.

try yongnuo RF603c Wireless flash trigger. I have used these on my xs rebel which is a few models less then your t3. They work great.

You already received answers and even links on shutter releases, so I won't repeat but I did want to say the T3 is a very capable little camera, there is no need to upgrade the body if you don't feel like you have outgrown or even found it's limitations yet.

I would go to either of the camera web sites--I know that the Nikon site has remotes and has the a suggested cost for any of its items. And I am sure that Canon would have the same
hope that helps

I got the RS-60E3, and it works fine on my SX50. It's basically a switch - just makes contact, so no batteries are required.

I got an inexpensive wireless for my Nikon D3100 off ebay for about $15. So far it's working just fine. They have them for all brands.

By the way, never apologize for the type of camera you have or buy. Most of what makes good photography is the person, not the equipment.
