I realized that some weeks ago I went to a wedding and had set my camera on "portrait" which is a soft focus. So I have been shooting macro in portrait style. How does this non-portrait rank as far as critical focus is concerned?
Focus was on the eye
i think it is back focused a bit

Thank you, by a bit do you mean by the depth of the eye or more?

to me the tongue is in better focus,i do that all the time
I agree with Tom, the tongue and the hair behind the head are in really clear focus. With bugs you generally want to focus on the eye, what you can keep in mind is that when the iris closes on your lens it will create additional DOF both in front of and behind the focus point. I am not sure what the ratio is but you can google it, but I think that it is something like 20% increase in front and 80% behind the focus point.

Before reading Tom's opinion, and Geff's comment, I enlarged this section of your photo, which demonstrates focus on tongue, not leading eye. To emphasis your focal plane, you can crop even tighter than I did.
Thank you all I have a lot more practicing and learning to do

But what a neat picture of the tongue.
