UHH useless information - discuss

I love my daily read of the topics listed under the general chit-chat section of UHH, but I get really bugged by the people who post and give their location as 'in hiding'. Are they frightened that we are all going to turn up on their doorstep and demand feeding/sex/bed and breakfast? UHH seems to be going global with members appearing from all over the internet world. My own information states 'England' which, I hope would go some way to explaining to American and other nationality readers why some of my attitudes and humour might differ from theirs. Aussie attitudes and humour differ again as do New Zealanders and Japanese. I know that you aren't going to doorstep me because even England is a big area containing millions of people and I'd be hard to find! So why 'in hiding' as a location? It's a useless bit of non-information in my opinion. What do you think?

I quite agree. And as you can see I include my coordinates. However realize it is everyone's choice !!! As you have done with ONLY England.

Not showing the location sometimes makes it difficult when discussing some things, especially when it is monetary or an event and or location.
Other then that, I just like to know where someone is if I'm chatting with them, or just plain nosey.

Some omissions are accidental. It's very easy to miss that field when newbies are filling in their profiles.

I used to wonder about that, too. I guess it is a personal privacy issue and I'm OK with it. I want to suggest that if you're really curious about the "in hiding" status, have you contacted the UHH staff and asked them about why they do that? At the bottom of the page, there is a "Contact Us" link. Use that. Or look at the "Privacy policy" link beside that one.

Hey Doc ..... let me see wat I can find out ..... looks like "in hiding" is listed as a default when no location is stated when ya register, it's not like you choose it .....

Not sharing doesn't mean in hiding - just a selection of words chosen by the people who set up this site.
Not putting down a real location could mean that someone is merely saying that they could be from anywhere and that is the way they want to be thought of.
The truth is that we live in a world of internet and we have become people of the world.
I have seen people ask about the purchase of photographic paper or something for their camera. Someone responds by asking where they live to help them with the purchase.
As for me, I live only a mouse click away. If I need specific information that is location sensitive - I will provide it. Or just send me a personal message if there is something you need to know.

I'm just always amazed that this is such a deal to anyone, really who really cares? it doesn't matter, even if people filled it out it doesn't mean that is their real location.

In hiding is the default for the forum software...some just don't care enough to even spend the time to type anything in...I know I didn't for at least 6 months until someone point it out to me....
it's just not worth even worrying about....it's a quirk of the software.
